Excitement hangs in the Portsmouth air this week, as the Portsmouth Comic Con returns to the city this weekend.
Having run successfully for the last time in 2019, fans of pop culture and comics in Portsmouth and beyond are preparing to experience the third instalment of the event.
Highlights of the Portsmouth Comic Con this year include a walkthrough experience centred around the Star Wars franchise.
Created by the national charity cosplay group Joker Squad UK and the Isle of Wight Prop Crew, the walkthrough will allow attendees to travel to the fictional worlds of Tatooine and Endor, complete with sightings of Stormtroopers and even some adorable Ewoks!
The event, held at the Portsmouth Guildhall, will also feature panels on everything from Doctor Who to deaf representations in comics, a wand-making workshop for Harry Potter fans and numerous art and graphic novel stalls.
After Comic Con events in Portsmouth were cancelled in both 2020 and 2021 to ensure the safety of potential guests, protection measures against COVID have been set in place, with increased cleaning across the Guildhall facilities and encouragement to wear face coverings wherever possible.
Portsmouth residents can travel to the PCC through the city Park and Ride scheme, or park in the Isambard Brunel Car Park near the Guildhall, while those travelling to Portsmouth from other areas of Hampshire, Sussex and further can access the event via trains to the Portsmouth and Southsea train station.
Comic Con events such as Portsmouth's proceedings are increasing in popularity with attendees, with up to 100,000 guests travelling to visit the London Film and Comic Con yearly alone, according to the convention's official website.
The Portsmouth Comic Con is held during the weekend of May 7th-8th. To buy tickets, visit the PCC website at www.portsmouthcomiccon.com.
Until next time!
